The Stanworth Heath Light Railway

Construction

Construction is pretty straightforward.  Basically the track-work is loose laid onto a 6inch (about 150mm) deep bed of 10mm pea-gravel.  Lawn edging separates the gravel from the soil and keeps everything nicely apart (most of the time) - As shown below

Track-work is entirely LGB throughout, joined together as intended by the manufacturer, with conductive paste placed on the fishplates before joining ensures electrical continuity.  I know that many people recommend soldering jumper wires between rail joints or using rail clamps, but my track has been down since 2002 and I've had no problems with electrical continuity.    Point work in the sidings area is all electrically operated..

There are a number of kit built structures on the railway, which are from the Model Town range.  Currently there is an engine shed, slate cottage, and signal cabin.  Scratch built structures consist of a Coaling stage, and the main station building and platform.  In addition a second platform for the main station and a second station are currently under construction.  As yet there isn't any signalling on the railway (other than some static ground signals in the sidings), but this is definitely on the cards.
